Here Oya, wife of Sango, is depicted in ikunle abiyamo or kneeling with baby on her back. She is holding the Ose Sango/double headed ax which symbolizes Sango’s thunderous power and kingly authority. Her crown, also adorned with the Ose Sango, alludes to the profound relationship and inter-dynamics both Oya and Sango’s powerful forces of nature have with each other.

This antiquity has beautified over time as the wood and monochrome pigment’s fading have begun to reveal the secrets of this piece’s personal history.
